MAME in no way manages random seeds, the games themselves do that. And how it does it is likely to vary from game to game. As for Ninja Commando, I have had no problems playing back Gemant's recordings. Often problems with Neo Geo games are NVRAM related, and I'm pretty sure the Samurai Shodown seri...

It is certainly possible that the real time clock on the Neo Geo could be used as a random seed, although it is quite clear that many games do not.

Banning all Neo Geo games is certainly rather drastic action.

Nope, having hiscore.dat present with or without a corresponding .hi file makes no difference. MAME doesn't use the .hi file at all.

I've had a little muck around with hiscore.dat now. I tried to see if it made any difference with Thunderforce AC, which it didn't. It didn't make any difference whether there was a .hi file present or not. In fact, it does not use it at all when using -playback. Now, I am looking through the MAME s...

Thunderforce AC

http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/mickey_tfrceac_1556540_win57.zip Won't playback with or without sound under MAME 0.57 (Win32 console). Loses sync around stage 4. Tried with default NVRAM, worked better, but still lost sync on stage 7. I guess that it's likely that NVRAM (default or otherwise) was use...

Many games will generate their own 'random' numbers by using RAM contents (which would include any high scores) as a seed. That's why .hi files should be deleted before recordign like with .nv files. I'm not exactly sure of how hiscore.dat operates with MAME, as I don't use it myself, but I think it...

By the way,Mac recordings CAN be played back into other platforms, especially if the game doesn't have rands... And certainly only if the CPU cores are the same, which is impossible for 68000 and Z80, as the DOS and Win32 version default to the ASM cores which no non-x86 machine can run. The C and A...

From what I can tell, the only changes to gunbird from 0.56->0.57 was that the Korean version was added, and became the parent set [gunbird]. The japanese version that was the parent set was simply moved to gunbirdj. The files and their CRCs for gunbird in 0.56 match those for gunbirdj in 0.57. C:\m...

I just don't get how oplfm settings would affect it when Neo Geo doesn't use either YM2203, or YM3812/YM3526.

Anyway, I tryed it with -joy 8button, despite not having a joystick/joypad connected to this PC. It played back to 330k. So still no joy. I have always had scanlines disabled.

I can't play this one back past stage 2. I've tried both DOS and Win32 versions of MAME 0.57, with and without sound.

Anyone else managed to play this one back at all?

Judging by the comments on his recordings, it looks like rainbow is now rainbowo, and rainbowa is now rainbow (the parent set), with rainbowe (extra version) staying as is. The difference is basically just that the C-Chip has been more faithfully emulated now.
