Gee, why did I suspect you'd be the first other person to see it?

Needless to say, I disagree about Mario Bros. and Popeye being that similar. If I see similarities, its more in the 3 games that all fit the description "scroll forward, controlling your fighter with your joystick and shooting everything you can". I mean the button in Mario Bros. and Popeye doesn't even do the same thing!

Yes, it was needless. For Marco as well.

I must confess, if someone captured me and put a gun to my head and told me I had to play either Popeye or Mario Bros. for two months, I wouldn't have to agonize over it very long at all before sobbing: "Mario Bros. you heartless bastards! Mario Bros! Anything but Popeye!"

But after the two months was over and I was free...I'd find them. And what I would do to them would give Dr. Phibes nightmares...

Hi guys... nothing against other people... but the current game selection is not interesting to me, due a lot of aspects. Just to compare, the game selection was very balanced in T9.

Which is why this thread exists. Of course, it's completely impossible to satisfy everyone all of the time either.

Is necessary to play all the games to take part in the tournament?

No. Here are the results from last year's T9:

http://marp.retrogames.com/index.cgi?mo ... =9&top=999

You'll notice that 4 of the players only played one game. The way the scoring is done however, one would have no chance of winning the tournament without playing every game.

Well, the preliminary rules mahlemiut posted at http://marp.retrogames.com/tourney/rules.html state "If you are playing in the tournament, you must play ALL the games in order to qualify for the tournament. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the current tournament."

I stand corrected.

So I'll submit dummy recordings for all 8 games as soon as the tournament starts, then I can spend two months playing what I want to play.
When I wrote:...if someone captured me and put a gun to my head and told me I had to play either Popeye or Mario Bros. for two months...
I thought I was being facetious.

Yes, you do have to play all the games to get a final ranking. It's a rule that been there since the beginning, although Skito seems to drop it in the previous couple of tournaments.

There's not really much that can be done to stop someone from playing just one or two game in the tournament, but the idea is to encourage everyone to play all the games. I do remember in one tournament long ago, where Brian McLean was so far in front of everyone, submitting on all but one game, but was in danger of being DQed for not submitting on all the games. He did submit a low-ish score on that one game (Elevator Action from memory) near the end. :)

Must have been T5. The only one I can't find results from anywhere on the site.

Which reminds me, I made an index of all the other tournaments results some months back and don't think I ever mentioned it.

http://weehawk.marpirc.net/archives.html

It will have to be in the marp.retrogames.com/tourney directory for the relative links to the first four tournaments to work.

If anybody finds the results from T5 anywhere please let me know.

To get T5 scores and results, you'll have to place a "4" parameters under "tournament number:" in the search page.

Leaderboard is here:
http://marp.retrogames.com/index.cgi?tu ... n=4&top=50
But I don't think it's precise.

John........ don't ask... it's a long story.

Cool. I updated the index mentioned previously to link to that page and explain that it's really T5 results.

Looks like they weren't able to get hold of Zwaxy to set up for T5 so they just re-used the T4 mechanism.

Ok, I think 3 shooters is one too many at least.

My opinion would be that having Super Zaxxon and Donpachi offers the best variety between shooters. Of course, I'm willing to listen your opinions too, so let's hear them.

The next game in (if the replacement even takes place) will be Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors [dstlk].

It should also be noted, that I have a judge already lined up for Donpachi, should it manage to stay in T10.
