T15 - Games selection

Sorry, 25 minutes of delay. Stuff happening IRL.
Game selection

All users (who desire to play then in the tournament, but also not) are invited to vote for the games they would like to be played in the tournament.
All games voted will be sorted in a list, divided by genre. The 5 games that will be chosen for the tournament, will be extracted following this procedure:
-random extraction of 5 genres;
-random extraction of one title from each of the 5 genres previously extracted;
-if the game has different modalities that have been voted (like solo mode and Vs CPU, or all lives and one life, etc.), random extraction of one modality.
Sixth game will be randomly chosen by tournament coordinator, not picking one from the list of voted games. (see main thread for more details)

From August 15th to 28th, players/users are allowed to vote.
From August 29th to September 16th, coordinator and users all can discuss about the games voted (to decide how they can be divided in genres, if they are worth to be considered, etc.) using this thread.
On the day of September 17th, games will be extracted and communicated to the public.

How to vote

The user can express up to 3 preferences in a reply to this thread. The user is not obliged anyhow to express 3 preferences, but can vote also for one or two games only. Only one comment with votes is allowed for users, so think carefully before submitting your choices. The comments can't be edited as well; if you do it, the original votes will be reported.

The tournament coordinator can not vote. (kind of obvious)

Please express your votes by stating, at least, the ROMset name for the latest version of MAME released, to avoid any sort of misunderstanding. For any doubt or question about the correct ROMset name of a defined title, send a question here or by PM to me BEFORE voting.
If a game has multiple game modalities (see example below made on Puzzle Bobble 2), you have to choose one of the modalities.

Games you can vote

It is suggested to vote for max. three different games, but since the extraction method will pick in any case 5 games of different genres, you are also allowed to insert two/three clones/versions/modalities of the same game. During the discussion phase that will follow, if we state that two versions are too similar or practically identical, the "surplus" will be removed from the list.
Example: Puzzle Bobble 2 and Puzzle Bobble 2X have different patterns, so both could be voted, or the Puzzle mode and VS CPU mode could be voted, of course they would count as 2 votes of the 3 allowed. I took this example because pbobble2 and clones are disallowed (already played).

Q: Can we vote for different settings? (like hardest, max. 3 lives, etc.)
A: No, you can not. As stated in the general rules, the default MAME settings will be used.
For this tournament only, if you liked the initial project of Wolfman, you can vote for the game being played with one life only (if game has "lives"). This means, the game will still be played with default settings, but only the score achieved with one life will be considered.

Games you can NOT vote for, are:
-Games already played in recent MARP tournaments (you can see the list below) AND THEIR CLONES
-Not working games
-Games that belong to one of these genres: Fruit Machines, Casino, Pinball (simulation of pinball on screen is an allowed exception), Quiz (not in English), Mahjong, Hanafuda, Pachinko, Ticket Redemption. If a game is not considered proper for a tournament, that will be discussed in the later phase.
-Archived games (they are marked with a star * in MARP rankings)

List of games played in recent MARP tournaments
(I'm sorry if I listed the name of a parent and a clone has been played, or viceversa. It doesn't have much importance: as I said above, clones of these games can't be voted.)

Games played in total will be 6. Votes serve to determine 5 of 6 games, the sixth will be chosen by me at random, depending on the randomly extracted games from your votes.
Games picked from votes + sixth game will result in being 6 games of 6 different genres.

A little dismayed Pinball isn't allowed, as Atari Video Pinball would have made an awesome entry. [I've played on an actual cabinet and it was a ton of fun]

Hmm
Now, I wrote this two years ago and I slightly modified the text (but not this part), I believe my thought was to avoid "real" pinballs, not simulators on screen of a pinball like Atari's.

Because emulation of electromechanical pinballs in Mame... well, you should know.
Apologies for the misunderstanding.
Alternatively, if someone believes that all pinballs should not be taken in consideration, they can express their motivations in discussion phase. Feel free to nominate it with a vote if you want to.

Video Pinball titles, yes. Actual Pinball machines, EM or otherwise?? No. Just my 23 cents.
