TGMAME. Since not all of us have computers that run the newer versions
of MAME all that well.

True, Stig, but alas, he didn't vote for latest MAME; he specifically
stated so:

<p>

"I vote for, not the latest version, but .56 "

<p>

I might as well finally vote myself; I vote for TG MAME.

35tg for the moment
<p>

but I'm still dreaming for a more recent tg version ; who can do
that ? mark, benjos ? please ... there is a lot of games we all would
like to play in future tourneys, not only m35 games ...

Maybe, if possible, it would be possible to compile a special mame for
the KOA3? That way, it's speedy for the slower computer users, but we
still get to play any game currently supported by MAME. Just a
thought, maybe someone (myself even?) would be willing to do so, or
even as a group thing.

I hate to be redundant, but to point out above:
<p>

"I've been advised in the past not to use m37b9tg due to issues out
of my control (that's why back in Deca2001, we had to revert back to
m35tg3b); so this version is not allowed during KoA3."

Latest MAME, it works better for and fast enough for me on this
333Mhz machine and the display is crisp. Just have to fiddle about
with some of the advanced settings a bit, ticking the stretching
option actually brings some games up to 100% speed. Win36 had
crackly sound too.

Joey, intresting suggestion.
How will you make it faster ?

By re-compiling it with only the selected games and corresponding
drivers, and changing the source code to reflect, I believe it should
run faster. I'm not 100% sure, but the more games/drivers/code added
to MAME makes it run slower, and by removing the unnecessaries for the
tourney would make it run faster. That is my theory, it is possible
that I could be wrong.

The number of game drivers aren't what slow down MAME, other than
maybe making the executable ever so slightly larger, requiring more
RAM (the MAME exe is 12MB as it is), but on straight CPU power, it
doesn't.

What does make MAME slower then? And would recompiling a much smaller
version of MAME make it run faster?
