TimeTrial 2015 - Round 5 [garou-sm]

Post by giro-X »

Image
Round 5 of 5
Garou - Mark of the Wolves (NGM-2530)
Survival Mode
by SNK, 1999

ROMsets needed: garou; neogeo
Genre: Fighter / Versus

GOAL: Defeat first 10 enemies.

Parameter to count for tournament score: Cleared enemies & Internal game timer.
In minutes, seconds, and centiseconds. Yes, also centiseconds, we're talking of the total time spent that you can read in the upper left corner, NOT the time left in seconds in the center! As you can see in the screenshot below, the timer to take in consideration will be the one that, for example, reads 00:43:29. The 47 seconds left to survive are irrilevant to the score calculation.

NOTES ABOUT RUNNING THE GAME PROPERLY
To run the Survival Mode, insert a coin. Hold buttons A B C D, then push 1P Start. While in Survival Mode, you can't play as Grant and Kain. (unless playing the NeoGeo game as Console - BUT THAT'S NOT THIS CASE)

NOTES IF YOU SUBMIT TO MARP YOUR RECORDING
The game must be uploaded, if you choose MARP instead of this thread, to the game garou-sm. (as "garou" refers to story mode with score in points)
Calculate your score using this formula: Rounds won * 1000 - seconds after last round won. You don't have to use this formula for uploading into forums.

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL GAMES
MAME version to use: WolfMAME 0.156
You can submit either to the forums or MARP. On MARP, you must include the text TT2015 in description.
No recording can be uploaded 24 hours after you recorded it. INPs older than that will be disqualified
Default settings

Time remaining: Until GMT 23:59 Feb. 6th (click here)
Tournament scoreboard: (click here)
Have fun! :)

HINT - use whatever you want that is not Keyboard. As it is troublesome to keep pressed 5 keys together for launching the Survival Mode, the computer may not receive the input from all of the keys.
Any hint for resolving this issue is welcome. I have been told to use the Steady key function but sincerely it didn't help here. The only way I found to launch it via keyboard was to use a key that had for setting the four inputs ABCD together. We may allow that AND ONLY THAT if needed. And no, A+B or C+D on the same key is not allowed. A+B+C+D is a command unuseful for the game... but C+D for example is the T.O.P. attack. A+B also is a move. As you know, it isn't accepted by MARP rules.
We will be watching the inputs frame by frame if necessary. :|
Anyway, I don't know if editors will let me do such a thing.

The password for viewing the list of games/goals given in this post viewtopic.php?f=19&t=15529#p60334 is

Code: Select all

kicks
(that is, the pronunciation of QIX)
From there you can now see that I haven't changed any of the games. One only change has been done, as explained in thread for round 2 or 3, on Aurail stages to clear (brought down from 8 to 6).

I meant, something like this.
Can we allow it for this round of TimeTrial only?
If we can't allow there's still an alternative solution, that would be, using a different entry for scores in MARP (that it's ready, *tt15-game5) and allowing a NeoGeo Bios that lets you choose the Console, from which you have a menu with Story, Survival, VS, training, options.

I didn't think of this.

Anyway - if any of the participants encounter that trouble, of being not able to acceed to Survival mode with A+B+C+D+1P, please let me know, you can leave a message here in the forums as well as a private message to my account here. If you do not have still an account on MARP forums (bad :P ), you can leave to my FB or my e-mail giro-x@hotmail.it (I will check daily - this week) --- and meanwhile I get to read the notify, keep training :)

Until nobody has the trouble, all the default rules are on, and so:
default bios, wolfMAME 0.156, no multiple buttons on same key.

Scoreboard updated. Tournament ranking is as follows:
1) Dax - 81 pts
2) Paulo Valmir - 70 pts
3) Dalar - 55 pts
4) Phil Lamat - 53 pts
5) Bad Dad Jokes - 44 pts
6) INNUENDO - 42 pts
7) TheBSM - 40 pts
8) Sawys - 39 pts
9) (ex aequo) C.Hatchett & CrazyKongFan - 29 pts
11) Paolo Colman - 10 pts
12) Agodzilla - 7 pts
13) xelnia - 6 pts

Can someone tell me why sometimes I'm ko in 1 or 2 seconds ?
(please avoid answers like "bad defence")

Also I Wonder why Marp scoring doesn't use centiseconds.
It could be fixed soon if everybody agree

I support this. Only boring part is to check all scores again and update the scores with the centiseconds information; for this I could eventually lend a helping hand to shorten up times (if this change to special rules is applied of course).

Vitality is not restored between stages. Only way to increase life is collecting a Life Up item. If you finish one stage with minimal life left, then you'll start the next still with minimal life left.

More hits, more chances to get an item (Life, Time, Power, Skull). I mean, a single slap gives you one chance, a Rush 5 hits should give you 5 times more chances for an item to appear, i.m.o.
Some body throws can even give you 2 chances, one when grabbing enemy, and one when enemy finally reaches floor.
...although, exceeding with weak attacks or forcing combos with multiple hits may slow down your matches. You must find a way to equilibrate the saving of life with speed, and giving a try to each character to understand which fits you most may help.

About the items:
Life bonus can be a quarter (I guess? it's slightly less than a third) of life or even full. If enemy gets it, then enemy gets life.
Power refills power bar at the bottom from null to S, or from S to P. Rarely from null to P. Same for enemies.
Time is always 30 seconds to time left to survive, to max limit of 99; no matter who takes it.
Skull can be a minus of either life or power or time, but which is, you discover only by taking. Skull life doesn't kill instantly you or enemy if taken with too few health. And enemies are not smart enough to avoid skulls, usually.

Nobody has sent me messages of troubles with the 5-keys-pressed-at-the-start trouble, though we got also only 2 scores 8O
on the game of these 5 I sincerely love the most

Remember to delete NVRAM before recording/playback? (Or use the provided batch files)
