Lots of proposals but we don't seem to be heading for a vote so I'm gonna take a stab at it and take a dump on various games. :) How about I run what's left in a random number generator tomorrow evening if there are no further objections? Feel free to remove more in the meantime, I don't know all of these. I say tomorrow so we can actually get started on the game we choose.

Here's a master list, let me try and whittle it down by removing leech games, analog games, stuff that some people hate and weird stuff. Also games that would have rules hard to enforce since video proof will not always be available. Throw in your own "I HATE THIS" vetoes too.

1 Gradius III
2 Vs. Clu Clu Land
3 Wonderboy
4 Twin Cobra
5 Pnickies
6 Congo Bongo (rhino stage leech)
7 Super Cobra
8 Super Zaxxon
9 Swimmer
10 Speed Buggy
11 Arkanoid (paddle game)
12 Champion Baseball (leeching hard to enforce)
13 Wizard of Wor
14 Turbo outrun
15 Battlantis
16 Rygar
17 Chelnov - Atomic Runner
18 Saint Dragon
19 Blood Bros (leeching)
20 Gaplus
21 Scramble(stern romset)
22 Exerion
23 Carnival
24 Gravitar (Wags has nightmares I reckon)
25 Teeter torture
26 Star Wars (controls)
27 Baby Pacman (special rules)
28 Black Widow
29 Princess Clara Daisakusen
30 Crime City
31 Exerion
32 Cabal

43 Time Pilot 84
44 Shock Troopers
45 Sinistar (controls)
46 Strider (leechtastic)
47 Tinkle Pit (it burns)
48 Double Dragon (leechtacular)

BeeJay wrote:I was thinking of suggesting Time Pilot 84 and also Exerion as well, so would be happy with either of those games. :)

A few of the other games I was thinking from the 'classic' period, or more accurately from when I was a lot younger and spent time popping 'twennies' in them all have marathon problems:

Gyruss, Juno First, Xevious

So I've ruled them out. (Even suggesting 5 lives would still be problematic..BeeJay.
Great Games :D Exerion :D :D :D
Gyruss could be played with 1 ship only as well :D :D :D

I oppose the randomizer thing, it leads to random (-ly disliked) selections. Just because one nominated a game doesn't mean others will want to play it! :)

...I suggest everyone votes for 10 games from nominees, and first place gets 10 points, second place gets 9 points etc. After 3 days of voting we add points together and voila.

That likely leads to popular games being picked but maybe popular is better than random, for at least we can say that's what we voted for. (And other teams will like the picks more too)

Fire at will!

P.S. Wolfman; if I understand the scoring for this competition correctly: you're going to give points for first place 30 points, 2nd place 29... 5th place 26 points. I think problem with that scoring is that there's little difference between 1st and 5th places. Maybe better would be 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points? Or a hybrid such as 10, 8, 7, 6, 5 points...

BBH wrote: Although in a 20-game format, there is not that much time to learn how to play it which isn't the ideal format I would like to see for it in a tournament.
But as only top 5 scores for a game count for points... that means one probably doesn't have to play all games...

We actually discussed it back in May and tossed out the different scoring

Ok...

Where is the discussion? Is the scoring now 30, 29...26 points?

Since we have already more than enough nominations (86 games) to choose from...

I put up a VOTE at:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15810

I hope nobody gets offended for me acting this independently. Surely a vote is not a bad idea. :)

Guys we are only need 3 games, proposing 10 or so each is a bit much, dial it down a bit if possible. Plus everyone is selecting different games with little overlap.
pat33999 wrote:OK, I'm joining, thanks in part to repeated poking by TRB :)
Twin Cobra 2 (the prequel is marathonable)
Not related, but I will totally argue with you on that one Pat. I've been playing this on and off for a while. The Kyukyoku Tiger romset can very much be marathoned, but the US romset is a different ball game due to gimped offensive power and other reasons. The bullets speed maxes out at loop 7 and while not impossible it would take a lot of work to keep going into marathon territory.

Tommii I don't disagree with us voting for games although what am I using as a nomination pool? Use the current list and hope people picking 10 games will fix it? I'll check this evening. I know some people had concerns about making final picks public, so PM the votes I guess?

Edit, Ah, you set up the vote, never mind then, do Tommii's vote
