We are very close to the end of civilization...

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Haha, interesting detail. That makes me wonder if I should buy Joust2 video(including profanities!) from you, or should I go and buy the overlay glass? ;)

I agree with JTC about condor thingy, although I'm not aware of the current California condor situation.
You know, it would be possible to videotape mame play, as a result you would have videotape and inp-file(as at Robert's bounties). That would also make use of 2(huh) cameras unnecessary. You might then want to mention that trackball should be used for mame play.

What I meant by saying that bounty is excessive, was that you might actually have to pay the bounty if someone plays enough. No offence, but I think paying such money for watching someone else beat your record is...uh...well...
But you might be enough fan of CC that it wouldn't matter.

Here's a nice pic for you SW fans!

I would have suggested:

I guess I just don't see why the "And, unlike many other bounties" is necessary at all if you're not out to put anybody down.
welby1 wrote:how about just plain: "Unlike most other bounties, all awards over $1k will be presented live and in person at a time and place(In or around Louiseville, KY) to be determined by mutual agreement with winner and Mark Alpiger."

I don't think the in full is needed. While it is also different, it is inferred by the live presentation. Rob's and some others bounties stated that some time would be involved for payout ie: payments, future payout dates etc. Given the massive number of bounties offered and paid(out of his own pocket), there are bound to be occasional miscalculations and such. No shame should be associated with a minor mistake once in a while. Most of the prizes to date have been much smaller(potentially), so it wasn't that big of an issue. You could probably even drop the 'unlike most other bounties' part if it's going to be an issue.

I still think you should do a MC bounty
Thanks for the input guys, but, there's nothing wrong with what I have now, or even what I had originally (other than that it was misinterpreted). Because things were misinterpreted, I changed it. But, I'm not going to walk on eggshells, especially when I didn't do anything wrong. Again, I'm not really chastising anyone, but, I wish people would look at things in a positive light, rather than assuming a negative connotation. Plus, the first thing that I would think about when somebody alludes that other bounties aren't doing a full payment is... partial payments (i.e., installments over time). I wouldn't think no payment !! Actually, that's why I used the word 'full' in the first place - one of the persons that I bounced ideas off of (I forget who) last month immediately asked if I was going to be doing payments if someone got the 'big money'. So, assuming others would think that way, and knowing that some other bounties do payments (which is fine, BTW), I wanted to emphasize a unique and positive aspect to mine. Any interpretation that this was instead pointing out negatives is on the reader (kind of a 'glass half-empty' versus 'glass half-full' way of looking at things, to me).

Again, I'm not really putting anyone down, because perceptions aren't really 'wrong' - they just 'are'. Plus, it's kind of human nature to (sometimes) think, or assume, the worst. We've all done it. But, again, I wish that no one would have perceived things in that light. And, the bit of a rewrite I've done gets the point across much better, I hope. Oh, a final thot for everyone, too. Just because someone points out (this is really just 'selling', which I'm used to doing in my self-owned business) that something they're doing is advantageous, or better, than something else, doesn't mean that they're putting the other thing down, or that it's 'inferior'. Example: Mercedes might say (and provide comparisons and examples) that their cars are better than Toyotas. And, overall, they probably are (well, for double or triple the price, they ought to be). It doesn't mean that Toyota's cars are of an 'inferior' quality themselves; it's just that Mercedes is (according to them) better than Toyota's good or very good cars.

In summation; I wasn't putting anybody down, I was (in a manner of speaking) putting my offers 'up', and 'selling' them on the 'superior' aspects that they have, in addition to addressing normal concerns (like payment installment issues, and the time to get the payment) that any gamer who went for a bounty would have. Well, enough of that.

Final thot - on the MC bounty - I was considering it, Mark, not for anyone specific in mind, but, it was one of the titles that was allowed for the original marathon contest in 1985 (which is where I got the start of most of the games on the list, and then went from there). Since there's an issue on Missile Command, where you get a ton of extra cities at a certain score, I didn't want the game in my marathon, because of that issue. I also cut out a few others because of various similar issues and bugs. Q*bert is the only 'buggy' one that's left in, and, the 'no enemies' trick had better not be used (even 'accidentally'), or there will be a major penalty, needless to say !

Definitely, get the DVD Tommi, as it helps out both myself, and Dwayne. Besides, you don't need the overlay - it says "Pegasus is more effective on the ground". That one phrase was the key to $2,500 !!!! Believe me too, the DVD is great, as it's short enough to remain engaging the whole way thru, just like my Crystal Castles one (OK, shameless plug alert !!).

I have thot about doing MAME, in a way similar to what you propose, Tommi. And, I'd do it such that a lot of my present bounty issues would not be in effect (like, no marathons would mean a lot less rules; also, as you say, no need for two cameras, probably; and, a few other things would be simplified). For these bounties, MAME is useless, as the trak-ball I/O on MAME sucks (on every version I've seen, for the purpose of Crystal Castles, at least), and finding a good yoke controller for Star Wars might be a challenge, too. Besides, I like promoting play on the originals. They're not as hard to find as you might think. A lot of players with games on VAPS actually allow you to visit and play. And, again, it's another way to differentiate myself from most bounties. Keep in mind, too, that Billy required use of the originals, and MAME was in full bloom then (including, probably, the vast majority of his bounty titles).

I know what you mean about ''excessive'. And yes, you can say it - paying such money for watching someone else beat your record is... stupid ! Well, not stupid, but seemingly so. My emphasis is to show how tough it truly is. That's why I want to see what people can do, and if anyone can even beat my score using the higher-point possibility playing method, versus the lower one, that I used. I'm not saying that they can't, or that it's hard. It's not, and I (and very possibly most bounty entrants) could easily beat my score playing that way, inside of two months. But, it's pointless for me to do so, as it uses a method that's different than the way I played. I want to beat my score using the level 8 up method first, and maybe top Frank's best (902,265), and then gun for the 910,722 score, using the level 2 up method.

I guess that while I'd hate to be in third place (in a way) by having someone pass me, and maybe Frank too, maybe I would get motivated to start playing again. That's another part of the reason for this bounty. But, it's a minor one. I'm still wanting to draw Don in, and maybe I will, since the non-marathon bounty requirements are pretty reasonable. Again, all you have to do is check out the rules at TG, and you'll see that they're very long and detailed, too, in total. Since I've got cold, hard, cash on the line, you better bet I'm going to cover the bases, and therefore the rules must be a little lengthy. Maybe I should offer a bounty for anyone who can (stand to !) read thru them for more than 5 times ! The only question is, would it be a marathon ??? - Mark / MDA
