The local city school district has bought and is tearing down a dozen and a half buildings in my old neigborhood to make way for a larger facility and lot to park cars in.
my grandparents moved to this neighborhood after wwII in 1946(IRISH descent)and stayed until 1982. my grandfather worked as a book keeper(accountant) for a pottery factory for 30 years.
i have a bunch of pictures that my biological sibling took last week in the old neighborhood.
I lived in the house from 1983-1997with my mom and two brothers and sister. Then ,my sister and oldest brother went off to collage in the mid 80's and would come home to visit from time to time.
all the other photos i have are too large to post , over 512k.
my point is that since my grandparents are dead and mom & dad are dead also as of this year and last, things change and nothing in this world remains for very long.(played a bunch of Nintendo 8bit and 16bit games there)

the place where i spent the happiest years of my life was demolished 4 years after i left it. no not an arcade, those went later. It was my (grade) k-6 school that went under the progress' knife. I took a bunch of pictures of it before they tore it down, so at least it would still survive somewhere. that reminds me i have to get those pictures digitized...

new games for old, new games for old...

here is a picture of wilson school grades 1-6.
it was built in 1918 or 20, after wwI i guess .
it will be torn down
like was done with grover Cleveland junior high
that lies right beyond this
it was rebuilt about 6 years ago and took up most of the playground
and athletics area.
as i said my mother grew up here in the 1940's ,50's,60's.
and i was raised in this place 70's thru 90's.
this was taken a week ago...
you can see a house boarded up
delivered newspapers here in 1984.
the neigborhood is trashed.
I will post more later.

this is about a 1/4 of a mile going back thru a field to the steps.
the other is at the base of the hill in an older section of the cemetary.

i went back to ohio
but my city was gone
there was no train station
there was no downtown
south howard had disappeared
all my favorite places
my city had been pulled down
reduced to parking spaces
a, o, way to go ohio

well i went back to ohio
but my family was gone
i stood on the back porch
there was nobody home
i was stunned and amazed
my childhood memories
slowly swirled past
like the wind through the trees
a, o, oh way to go ohio

i went back to ohio
but my pretty countryside
had been paved down the middle
by a government that had no pride
the farms of ohio
had been replaced by shopping malls
and muzak filled the air
from seneca to cuyahoga falls
said, a, o, oh way to go ohio

Tar's posts made me think of that song, too.

Unfortunately Youtube didn't seem to have the original video. All I could find was some really weak live versions.

The video here couldn't be gayer, but I just have to have the original recording:
