Help: mini ps/2 trackball on windows 7[SOLVED]

Hi, I bought one of those cheap mini illuminated trackballs

My computer doesn't have the green/blue ps/2 ports in the back, no biggie I thought, I have one of those ps/2-to-usb adapters.

When I plug it in, windows doesn't make the usual "sound" for when new hardware is found, but the trackball gets power as it illuminates. I tried various things to make it work. One suggested editing the regedit, that didn't work. Another suggested to enable ps/2 in the bios, but it's not even available in my bios options, probably because the ports are not even on my motherboard. And lastly I tried to download a ps/2 driver, but that didn't work, but maybe I did it wrong?

I read that ps/2 is a dead format and is no longer supported, so is there any way I can get this to work?

edit:
was told that I need an "active" adapter

ps/2 devices are not plug n play, so don't expect them to make a sound when they are pluged in. FYI, I can't use my hotrod ps/2 control unless it is plugged in at startup and never gets disconnected during the session. Maybe trying powering off pluging in the ps/2 and then powering on and see if it works then?

**oops sorry didn't see that you didn't have a ps/2 input. If you are using a ps/2 device as a usb device you will likely need a special driver for it.

I used to have the same issue, until I replaced the wiring loom in the HotRod with a new USB wiring loom.... haven't looked back since with regards to plugging it in while the computer is on etc... and it works on the newer laptops at home as well now, so I can potentially play some of the more modern games that require more resource to emulate. :)

I also don't need to have a PS/2 keyboard plugged into the HotRod anymore to be able to use it.

Cheers,
BeeJay.
