HISTORY

Nobody's given us any flack yet for neglecting "Golden Age" games, but we weren't going to forget the classics! Or in this case, a rather lesser-known game from that era.

Image

Grobda is not a traditional shooter. It could best be described as a sort of "arena" shooter like Robotron, in which you must destroy every enemy on the screen to advance to the next stage. There's no dual joystick control scheme though. You get a shield button which is quite generous, you can hold it down for a long period of time and absorb enemy shots. It's a necessity in later levels where enemy shots become more varied and accurate. This game also has an interesting scoring system, where you gain more points by "chaining" enemy deaths via explosions. It may be more worth it to try to group enemies on early levels to maximize points before things get tougher... because this game gets quite difficult later on. We hope the remaining players are up to the challenge!

With 8 players left, that means we're into the quarterfinals now.

I won't lie, I was a little concerned that this game could turn into marathon status. Nobody's demonstrated that yet on MARP though. If someone becomes capable of playing the game forever on these settings, we may impose a 5-lives limit for the rest of the round. For now though, anything goes!

Guess we didn't about the stage select warp trick... ain't that some shit...

There's been no vote to ban this from MARP (probably because nobody had done it in a recording), but for this round, the stage select trick will NOT be allowed. Please start each game from Stage 1.

It was just to show how the 12M could have been done (1M per life left if you finish round 99), I don't really believe in a marathon (how could you do ? there is a limited number of levels, and game ends after level 99).

For regulation, I can propose a vote between 3 options :
1-no warp allowed
2-warp allowed, all scores mixed
3-creation of a split (grobda-w) for inputs using the warp option (my preference)

Any other options to propose ? or can I launch a vote ?

I think 12m is marathon. I not have time to translate, however here is available the comment from the player "R"about 12m score:

Time to come clean - I didn't play all the way through the game beforehand (would have had to use cheats), I just assumed that it would loop the levels around since it's a fairly old game. But since it has an ending with a bonus for remaining lives, then great!

Doing it once is not nice but probably ok as it could have been "accidental" or lack of time to play, but a 2nd time should be a DQ.

Agreed. Both in the events he may hide better game skills, or he may be self-confident about the fact he won't pass the turn anyway so finds useless submitting anything (<= cause the spirit is to participate, rather than to excel ;) )

Very strong match TRB, as I expected. =D>
I made many tries last night before succeding in that terrible luck-only leeching. My 2nd best score was only 83K before the final 112K, and it was very frustrating to try patterns when no patterns are allowed. #-o I'll name this leeching shield & pray.
My thanks to Goldtimes for having showed it soon and to PG3 for having found the best spot to perform it. I wonder why he is following this tournament from outside.

And good luck to my friend nii-san for the next round :!:
