Shall we have a second olympiad?

Well, I guess I better pose the question.

The 2nd olympiad was scheduled for the summer of this year. Obviously, things have occured that may place that schedule in doubt. So... I'm wondering if anybody would be willing to do a second olympiad. If you're willing to participate, you can vote aye and vice versa. I'm not placing a time limit, one isn't neccessary here.

If the interest seems good enough, then we'll have an election to determine who the coordinator will be under the same rules of the general election. It would be the fair way to do it.

Voted 'No', as I wouldn't have the time [or skill, in most of the games!] to compete. But, I'd love to see the results of the others who compete and to see some games getting dedicated play and new MARP high scores generated!

By the way, how do the Olympics compare with the Deca and wcc touraments, in terms of what they're about and how they're scored?

I think you should have waited with your "no" vote until after you got the answers to your your questions :) Also you say that you are interested in seeing the results of the Olympiad etc.

Anyway I´m glad to hear that another Olympiad might take place! A great thing to play it! Even if I feel kind of alone here.. beeing from Sweden ;)

QRS: I know what you mean - is there anyone else at MARP from Wales?

I'm forced to say no ; more than the fact that summer is better to go to the beach than stay in front of screen, and more than the fact that I was thinking I'll be busy because I was going to have 1 child in may, now I'm sure I will be very very very busy : I'm waiting TWINS !!!!

The MAME Olympiad was intended to emulate a real olympiad in the following ways:

1. You compete by country, not by individual.
2. Anybody, including yourself, can coordinate... probably up to two or three games this time; that coordinator can set up their own settings and so forth.
3. The olympiad only takes 16 days, like the real thing, with individual games taking only seven days. (although we could change that seven day figure to whatever we wanted, really)
4. You may participate in any number of games you wish. You can play 1, or you can play 349,271, or any number of games in between. :) Point is that there's no minimum, nor maximum, requirement.

And probably a couple of other ways that I can't think of. For more information, check out http://marp.retrogames.com/olympiad to see what we did in the first olympiad. I think there were over sixty players in the first olympiad, I'm hoping for more in the second. :)

We don't have to schedule the olympiad in the summer persay, the first olympiad was in November... so perhaps that was the better month to play? Well, I think we should do the election first before we figure out when to schedule the Olympiad... but that's just my opinion. :)
