Golden Axe : time to debate about scoring on Marp

Before eventually lauching a poll, we can debate there about these 2 points :

1- as there are several clones, do we stand the "no magic" rule as definitive for goldnaxj (and only for this one) ? (would be cool for editors to keep things like that, and it makes the game playable in a slight different way imo)

2- for other clones, do we apply hensachi/strenght scoring to all goldnaxe & clones ? or some with hensachi & some with points ?

Opinions please ...

My preference would be to keep goldnaxj using the K7 scoring/rules - Hensachi and no magic. This would require zeroing two existing pre-K7 scores (Alenko and Ace13), and MJS wouldn't be able to revert to his old 1st place score.

On other versions I'd go with allowing magic, but switch to Hensachi*10 as the score rather than the existing Score*10. The game uses Hensachi when it displays the "top score" during attract mode.

Agreed on leaving goldnaxj with special rules as K7.
And I vote for using hensachi x 10 as the score for the other romsets (magic allowed).

Agreed on both points.

Not that I'm ever likely to play this game again, let alone any clones, it would make sense to leave this version under the rules that most of the existing scores were played.

As regards using the same scoring mode on the other clones, I possibly don't know enough about the scoring in this game to comment but based on George's comments if the game bases the top score on strength rather than points then that seems the more logical value to use for the MARP scoring.

I'd like all the parent+clones' rules change to hensachi*10
About the no-magic thing, we could split the goldnaxj romset only to magic/nomagic. The odd thing is that, doing this, a player could be first in two differents romsets with the exact same inp. Not good.
Perhaps the best action is to fix goldnaxj to K7's no-magic and leave all the other romsets to magic-allowed. So I quote MJS

my vote:

HENSACHI x 10 for all golden axe romset.

If you want, is possible open a 2 classifies for goldnaxj romset:

1. HENSACHI with magic allowed.
2. HENSACHI with NO MAGIC

Well, no one against, it looks like a plebiscite for hensachi/strength x10.
I think we don't even need a poll there (Matt ?).

If everybody is ok, I'm ready to do the changes, but I will need some help (lot of inputs).
Thanks to all to help there, here all the inputs to view to know the strength :

Phew !! All done ; let me know if there is any mistake...

To be complete, note that the 4 pre-k7 inputs on goldnaxj has disappeared because use of magic.
Mjsty & Potante have replaced themselves for k7 with "no magic" inputs.
Ace13 won't be too upset (he has only a 111.0 strength).
Alenko had some finished stuff, so we will keep the trace here :
1- http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/4/2/e/v6 ... wolf98.zip
[points = 270.5, hensachi = 165.3]

2- http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/9/5/3/v6 ... wolf98.zip
[points = 261.0, hensachi = 293.0]

3- http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/8/5/2/v6 ... wolf98.zip
[points = 240.0, hensachi = 270.0]

4- http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/9/3/4/v6 ... wolf98.zip
[points = 225.0, hensachi = 142.5]

BTW, it has been determined that the theoretical max strength with full magic abuse on Golden Axe is 610.0

Once someone reaches this, the game can be archived, as this is unbeatable. TO date no one has pulled it off yet.

Without magic, the score limit is much lower, and can be obtained by knocking every eneme possible into a pit on the death blow.

I can see three possible tracks for Golden Axe.

1) maximum strength, all tricks allowed. 6100 is max marp scoring in theory.
2) maximum strength, no magic (this may in fact already be in need of archiving)
3) fastest completion. this emphasizes high damage moves and knocking enemies off the edges.

Sorry but your informations are not correct.

Max score possible is 660.5 pts.
Actual WR is 618.5 (already better of your theoretical 610)
