Altered Beast set 4

Post by mahlemiut »

Is it just me, or does the set altbeast4 not exist in the MARP database? It is listed as a clone, but I am unable to move Tarma77's altbeast score (http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/d/2/5/tar ... olf106.zip) to altbeast4, which is the set that the INP uses. Says that it is not a MAME short name.

Code: Select all

bsr@betapc2:~/wolfmame/w0145$ ./mame64 -listfull altbeast*
Name:             Description:
altbeast          "Altered Beast (set 8, 8751 317-0078)"
altbeast2         "Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeast4         "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeast5         "Altered Beast (set 6, 8751 317-0076)"
altbeastj         "Juuouki (set 7, Japan, 8751 317-0077)"
altbeastj1        "Juuouki (set 1, Japan, FD1094 317-0065)"
altbeastj2        "Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)"
altbeastj3        "Juuouki (set 3, Japan, FD1094 317-0068)"

In MAME 0.106 it was called altbeas4 - not altbeast4 - so maybe that's the problem?

The database is based on 0.145, and the URL for the clones lists it and the other as they are represented in 0.145. http://replay.marpirc.net/r/(altbeast2, ... ltbeastj3)

Meanwhile, it is missing from the top scores list:

Code: Select all

      altbeast :    598300 : fraser               : Altered Beast (set 8, 8751 317-0078)
     altbeast2 :    577500 : fraser               : Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)
     altbeast5 :    598000 : fraser               : Altered Beast (set 6, 8751 317-0076)
     altbeastj :    576000 : fraser               : Juuouki (set 7, Japan, 8751 317-0077)
    altbeastj1 :        -- : --                   : Juuouki (set 1, Japan, FD1094 317-0065)
    altbeastj2 :    599800 : fraser               : Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)
    altbeastj3 :    575800 : fraser               : Juuouki (set 3, Japan, FD1094 317-0068)

0.36b1:
Andrew Prime added Altered Beast (Version 1).
Changed 'Altered Beast' to clone 'Altered Beast (Version 2)'. Renamed (altbeast) to (altbeas2).
0.92:
Renamed (altbeast) to (altbeas2), (altbeasa) to (altbeast), (altb8751) to (altbeas5), (altbeas2) to (altbeas4), (jyuo8571) to (altbeasj), (jyuohki) to (altbeaj1) and (jyuohki2) to (altbeaj3).

I've asked Pat to:
1-rename actual "altbeast2" to "altbeast4" : Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066) ; only Frazer's input is a real altbeast2 input
2-create an other "altbeast2" : Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066) ; I will move back Frazer's inp there

OK, I figured out what happened. A rename error occurred in m92 where I mixed up altbeast2 & altbeast4. Then, there is some recent history that shows another problem. Starting with m130, mamedev gave up on the 8.3 format. It wasn't until m134 that the altbeast series switched to long names, but no issues there. However, I misread a name change with m139, which then gave us the appearance that altbeast4 had been deleted. I had no reference, as MAWS was dying (and now they're really dead!)

In summary, the old altbeast (pre-m92) and newer altbeast4 INPs are still here, but they were renamed and incorrectly listed under altbeastj2.

MARP Change History:
m92
altbeas2 "Altered Beast (Version 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)" -> "Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeast -> altbeas4 "Altered Beast (Version 1, MC-8123B 317-0066)" -> "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)"

altbeasa -> altbeast "Altered Beast (Version 1?, 8751 317-0078)" -> "Altered Beast (set 7, 8751 317-0078)"
altb8751 -> altbeas5 "Altered Beast (8751 317-0076)" -> "Altered Beast (set 5, 8751 317-0076)"
jyuo8751 -> altbeasj "Jyuohki (Japan, 8751 317-0077)" -> "Altered Beast (set 6, Japan, 8751 317-0077)"
jyuohki -> altbeaj1 "Jyuohki (Japan, FD1094 317-0065)" -> "Altered Beast (set 1, Japan, FD1094 317-0065)"
jyuohki2 -> altbeaj3 "Jyuohki (Japan, FD1094 317-0068)" -> "Altered Beast (set 3, Japan, FD1094 317-0068)"

m134
altbeasj -> altbeastj "Juuouki (set 6, Japan, 8751 317-0077)"
altbeas5 -> altbeast5 "Altered Beast (set 5, 8751 317-0076)"
altbeas4 -> altbeast4 "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeaj3 -> altbeastj3 "Juuouki (set 3, Japan, FD1094 317-0068)"
altbeas2 -> altbeast2 "Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeaj1 -> altbeastj1 "Juuouki (set 1, Japan, FD1094 317-0065)"

m139
altbeast "Altered Beast (set 7, 8751 317-0078)" -> "Altered Beast (set 8, 8751 317-0078)"
altbeastj "Juuouki (set 6, Japan, 8751 317-0077)" -> "Juuouki (set 7, Japan, 8751 317-0077)"
altbeast5 "Altered Beast (set 5, 8751 317-0076)" -> "Altered Beast (set 6, 8751 317-0076)"
altbeast4 -> altbeastj2 "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)" -> "Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)"

instead italicized changes should have been:
m92
altbeast -> altbeas2 "Altered Beast (Version 1, MC-8123B 317-0066)" -> "Altered Beast (set 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)"
altbeas2 -> altbeas4 "Altered Beast (Version 2, MC-8123B 317-0066)" -> "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)"

m139
altbeastj2 "Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)"
[no changes to altbeast4]

to correct:
• back out altbeast4 deletion in m139
altbeastj2 -> altbeast4 "Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)" -> "Altered Beast (set 4, MC-8123B 317-0066)"

• create new game Juuouki set 5 in m139
altbeastj2 "Juuouki (set 5, Japan, FD1094 317-0069)"

• swap INPs from altbeast2 and altbeast4 from mix up in m92
