General MARP rule : Starting Level

Post by ***PL*** »

Consider this as a possible general rule at MARP:

If a game allows a choice for starting level, you must start at the first level. (Easiest or Level 1)

Voting without discussion sucks more than 3 Lewinskys!

But imo: case by case should these things be solved, here, now, good night.

i think they should all start from level 1,

why?

because, that way everyone starts out
at the same place..

if you can choose a level, other people
may start from a different one

Same as arcade ! Choose your starting level

For games with a end, you're generally penalized for the score by skipping level ; in other cases, first levels generally sucks : for example with "pingpong" first interesting level is #6 so it's good to start at 5 ; if you start at 1, you will bother very quickly, the cpu is playing like my grandmother :)

In most games I've seen, starting at level 1 will get you more points, especially if you can finish it from there. Sure there are exceptions to that, so going case by case is clearly the best thing to do.

I'm curious how much the TG settings have influenced decisions in the past? I bring this up as the Tournament settings for Tempest have just been altered & a player may start from up to level 9.

Just curious...

crystal castles, is probably one of the best known
examples of this, you can warp in 3 places in this game,

but its rare to see someone play from level 1,
all the way until the end..

i'm talking with mark apinger, who has written
an excellent guide to game, and he has
several technical points about that..

Also, in Blocken, if a player chooses the easiest level, he only has to face about 5 people in order to win, but at the hardest level, he has to face a lot more, therefore allowing more points.
