I just wanna point out this to all voters.. (after reading the award-winning Outrun thread)
Please check Hisas recording before you vote.. and please don´t vote because you happened to dislike someone in the heated Outrun discussion!!

I want at least 100times trying before vote.
To do is not always to see.

If Offroad was not ban,I will stay set 2 and 3 for QRS's normal play.
If introduce this eccentric rule, I WILL wipeout QRS's top score.
it is a piece of cake. all right?

The offroad trick is not easy to do. It still takes a lot of skill to get a high score even if you use the technique. You still have to race the rest of the course in a near perfect manner. I say let it be a legal technique.

Firstly, I have no doubt you could wipe off QRS's top score on Outrun Novice as indeed I have no doubt you could wipe off all of my top scores if you wanted. I know I am not the best in the world, my uploads just seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't think it is good to create bad feelings by threatening to beat QRS's score, his intentions are good. Then again I know your views are strong on this matter and I respect that just like I respect everyone here. Sometimes you gotta accept what goes on here like I accepted the 5 lives rule for Bombjack eh QRS ;).

I voted to allow the 'trick' even though I've never tried it. I relate this a bit to Sega Daytona USA, which I must've played thousands of times in the arcade and went on to win the UK National Championship Challenge competition. There are many 'tricks' in that game, one example is taking a shortcut through the pit lane on the Beginner's track without the car doing a pit stop, it is quite hard to do for all 8 laps but the reward is great, if it goes wrong (GAME OVER) start driving backwards or something for fun :). And what about ramming the gears into 2nd or 1st to take a hairpin bend without using the brake, was that the way the game was meant to be played? Come to think of it, it probably was :D.

Another driving game with a 'trick' was Sega Indy 500. You can do the whole oval track flat out by wiggling the steering wheel while you're giong round the bend and you won't skid.

Cheers, Gaz.

PS. I've just practised the offroad trick a bit and can now do it in short bursts so that makes my vote valid right? :).

Whos says Defcon can only go from 1 to 7? First I thought it was 5 max...based on how the US government defines it.

DEFCON 5 Normal peacetime readiness
DEFCON 4 Normal, increased intelligence and strengthened security measures
DEFCON 3 Increase in force readiness above normal readiness
DEFCON 2 Further Increase in force readiness, but less than maximum readiness
DEFCON 1 Maximum force readiness.

That's directly pasted from US Gov web page defined these defense conditions.

so wtf are 6 and 7 in your book Novice?

I guess you go a little offroad in everything you do.

Maybe you are thinking of there are 7 LERTCONs are broken down into 5 Defense Conditions (DEFCONs) and 2 Emergency Conditions (EMERGCONs).

DEFCON=6

52 million's play was a little too poor.
I re-make another play to see the spirit of outrun.

I have some mistooks.
but it is 2.3seconds faster than 52M's.
ran much better line.
Guys who vote to "BAN" must see and change one's opinion.

I watched it, and now it looks even more dubious. I don't see how the spirit of ANY racing game involves not losing on corners or by racing offroad.

It IS the spirit of "OUT" run.

what some people misunderstanding.
Out run is "driving game" rather than "racing game" not in cercuit.
Of course all sequel of outrun are not in cercuit.
U.S.A. city (turbo outrun)
World (out runners)
and all they have off road trick.

You can't honestly think that. No way it was the intention of the designer and programmers to have you maintain top speed going off the road. The spirit of the game is at the time outrun was made was to eliminate real highway speeding as closely as possible...except for the crash aspect.

Remember these are highways you are on. You shouldn't be able to stay at same speed when you get on the dirt or grass or rocks etc. versus on the asphalt. For that sand/desert course I'd bet you actually have an advantage being offroad versus on the road where there are all those sand drifts to dodge which in traffic you can't dodge them all. Running into those slows you down...yet you off the road doesn't slow down. Seem like the spirit of the game to you? cmon.

If they had intended it then they would have allowed you to do it in regular driving techniques. It'a amazing how you keep calling a flaw in the code a "feature" and something that is supposed to be there cuz it's in ths spirit of the game.

Of course they all have it cuz they all are from the same code base which has that bug so all games from it have that bug. My guess is testers didn't see that bug in normal play or even if they found it the company was like.....nah, no one will drive like that so we won't worry about it.

Companies back then just wanted the game to be stable. Small bugs like that even if they were aware of it they really didn't care cuz overall it doesn't change the ability of the game to generate revenue($) for the arcade.
