MARP Survivor - Round 2

Post by Buttermaker »

This is round 2 of MARP Survivor. A show where you get to vote on who you think should leave MARP. Round by round, one by one, contestants are voted off until we have a winner.

In round 1 the Leaderboard Llamas got their wish and SprintGod, the man who took their points away, was eliminated.

Remember: You must vote for the person you want to leave and not the one you want to stay.

The poll runs for 4 days. That should be enough.

Partly Baked Idea:

It occurred to me last week that:

a) the players themselves should be voting each week (with the possible exception of the last, of course) on who is to leave each round

b) they should have some sort of mutual goal to achieve each week and some sort of incentive to reach it upon which they would base their decisions of whom to vote out

For example:

Suppose that the following goals were established.

Week 1: Score 20 million points on DonPachi (any member - one game)
Week 2: Score 300,000 points on Centipede
Week 3: Score 3 million points on Pacman
Week 4: Score 500,000 points on Joust
Week 5: Finish Samurai Showdown 4 with no rounds lost
Week 6: Score 1 million on Defender

For each week that the goal is achieved, Buttermaker throws $100 usd into the pot that the eventual winner will collect.

Each week we would get to see the discussion amongst the players here in the forum about who is valuable to the effort and who is not, and then they vote to remove one of their group

The last week's survivor obviously couldn't be determined by their own vote. Perhaps we could vote on the final winner, or perhaps the performance on the last game could decide, or perhaps even we could have two final winners splitting Butter's money

Anybody care to bake further?

I'm not suggesting that the current fun be stopped...just fantasizing about a future, more serious version.

For a possible future version, we could have more MARP players join in obviously, and make two teams (randomly chosen?). Both teams could have the same goals, one for each player (goals made by the runner of it; you, Weehawk?), and the teams would have to decide among themselves who gets which goal. Both teams would then get a set amount of time to complete their goals. Whoever completes the most goals would not have to vote anyone off their team, while the losing team must vote one person off (be it a person who didn't complete a goal, or person creating problems, etc). The following round, the losing team will have to have one player take on two goals (or I guess you could allow them to throw one goal away, both are possible choices).

Another possibility is instead of goals, you could have the team with the lowest percentage (like the MAME Deca scoring) losing the round.

Just throwing ideas out there.

BTW, the vindictiveness of the "leaderboard llamas" took oddsmakers completely by surprise, throwing all action on this event into utter chaos, according to my source in Vegas.

In subsequent weeks:

Week 2 went pretty much as expected, with preload giving ln2 only slightly more of a close race than pundits had predicted.

Week 3 is seeing very little action. At this point any wager against preload is a sucker bet.

Week 4 is expected to be wild and wooly. The struggle between Kelly and Tommi almost too close to call, Novice being a prohibitive favorite to be the final survivor at this point.
