Nice Score Neil Chapman! (pacman)
As many have probably noticed, Neil Chapman scored a perfect game (3,333,360) on Pac-Man.
Time of the game: about 4 hours, 49 minutes.
Well done and congratulations!

Excellent job Neil! . Just finished playing it back, couldn't wait to see how you were gonna handle the split screen. It looked very risky to me how you did it but then you must have known what you were doing! I saw you sit in the hiding spot just before the split, I'd have been scared of a power cut or something and just got on with it.
Those early screens were pretty amazing too, even though you had patterns there looked liked plenty of places to screw up but you kept your head through all of it, congrats!
Yes one of the all time great inps submitted to MARP.
Gaz.

Congratulations Neil!
Watched the inp. First screen no pattern, after that patterns and semi-patterns(clearing half screen with pattern, after that grouping using tunnel). 9th key pattern looks very solid. Liked most to see how kill screen is played.
Great play and equally great to share it with whole world. I assume Neil did it mainly to prove himself that he can do it.
I enjoyed watching the inp, as being no pac-master myself.
Thanks,
TJT
Many breaks at sit-spot, I guess Neil's a smoker too

Thanks for the congrats everyone.
It's funny you should mention the power cut LordGaz, that scenario did cross my mind in the hiding spot just before the split screen. That would have been a bummer! I just had to take a break there and collect my thoughts for the split screen and double check to make sure I knew where I was going. The split screen has some close calls on it, but it is a pattern. But still, I found it very nerve wracking and played it a little shaky.
Actually, that first board is a pattern Tommi, just a crappy one.

Non-smokers need breaks too.

Re: Nice Score Neil Chapman! (pacman)
Congrats on doing this Neil.gameboy9 wrote:As many have probably noticed, Neil Chapman scored a perfect game (3,333,360) on Pac-Man.
however, for 3,333,360 Neil must have used a 5-man start settings game.
if you use TG-MAME and MARP settings for pacman the perfect score can only be 3,333,180.
I personally don't think that's worth dq'ing over....but perhaps a special note or something in the description would be nice....as well as potentially adjusting the score to what the 3-start men only game would be...3,333,180.
Otherwise...someone else might submit a perfect score using the MARP and TGTS-MAME settings for pacman and not be equal with Neil's score.
Just my $0.02.
LN2:
5-man start is TG settings. Which is why this is a legal MARP recording.

I think there was some discussion on the TG board some time ago about this. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the MAME TG settings is default (3men) and a possible score of 3,333,180. The Arcade TG settings is 5 man though.gameboy9 wrote:LN2:

I think that is what Rick is refering to.
To me it doesn't matter though. Both of the settings are perfect anyway

Exactly...however keep this in mind...for unknowlegable players a player can get 3,333,180 from a 5-man start game by dying twice prior to the split so they miss 180 pts from the 2 more times they could have potentially gotten the respawn dots.To me it doesn't matter though. That is NOT perfect. To show that score equivalent with perfect runs would be unfair to those that got a perfect score.
Also, if 3,333,360 is shown, then on scoreboards, a perfect 3,333,180 score would be viewed as inferior...and in terms of the new "leaderboard" of MARP....would be essentially useless as it wouldn't even get that player a 1st place.
Neil's score is listed as 3,333,360. It would be a shame if someone else did a perfect run with 3-start men and yet had to settle for a 2nd place.
I think it's flawed for the TG book also unless it's clearly explained. Tim was the first to get a perfect pacman game in MAME. Tim used 3 start men(TG-MAME settings) so ended up with a score of 3,333,180. Neil's 3,333,360 score shouldn't be listed above that...but I'm afraid that might end up being the case. That's not fair to Tim.
so....as stated above. TG-arcade settings for pacman..IF and ONLY if going for a perfect game are for 5 start men. This was a special case added for Billy's first perfect game so no one could come along with more start men and have a higher score. It was never meant to become the settings to use for any played pacman game.
TG-MAME settings are for 3 start men.
Since all the arcade perfect games have been 5 men I can't understand why you wouldn't start with 5, even for Mame. My advice is if you are going for a perfect game, start with 5.
Yes, I find it unfortunate there's this discrepancy, but what can you do other than to mention both games are perfect.
Glad I could help add to your repertoire Don.
