MAME Championship 2004 - Final.

Post by Frankie »

Hi everyone.

After 6 weeks of playing its time to find the winner.

The game we'll play in the Final is:

Battle Chopper 'bchopper'

Settings: Default
Goal: To be the best, and win the Tournament :)
Start: Friday 1 October 00:01 GMT
End: Thursday 7 October 23:59 GMT
MARP shortname: k4-fin-bchopper

We'll use WolfMame .78

For more information go to the Championship page:

http://home20.inet.tele.dk/frankie/knoc ... ckout.html

and go to the 'This Week' section.

Good luck to both finalist.

Looking at Maws database:
There are 5207 games

Shooters 1446
fighter 694
platform 627
sports 545
maze 426
tabletop 239 (mahjong)
puzzle 273
driving 266

and some other gategories. Mahjong is not good for tournaments, misc and unplayable and other categories have some hidden shooters.
So...most of the mame games are shooters, maybe 33%....therefore not bad idea to have shooters accordingly at tournaments. Ofcourse those can be didvided into sub-categories, but imo that's a bit artificial. Let's just say that gameplay at Empire Strikes Back is very different than Galaga :)

How about an all-shooter tournament

And yet, you could class Mr Heli as both platform and shooter.

Hell yeah!

P.S. I am not as ecstatic about Battle Chopper now after seeing the "tedious" leeching done on the Mr. Heli romset.... ugggghh so boring. And yet, it's probably going to come down to doing that. :(

One of the Rules says:

- There will be no excessive points leeching in any game. It is up to the coordinator's to determine wheater a game is points leeching or not.

So, if it should happen it will be looked on.

Yes, on last stage is possible maximize score. Time is 9 minuts on last stage. You can do with each life about 100k. Good bonus for left lives.
My proposal:
If this is boring for finalists then we can add 200k for each left life after finish game - (extra lives + current life) * 200k. But you can't do high score for MARP scoreboard with this solution.

I fully agree that this proposal is better for the tournament. do you agree Gavin?

This is what we'll do to avoid long and boring replays in the final. I've send an E-mail to both of you with this new scoring system.

Good idea Destructor.

BBH, your score 445290 should be 445290+200000=645290. You finish game with last life. For example (example only :D), if Gavin don't finish game, go to last stage with 1 extra lives (you get last stage with no lost) and use leeching only (then he get for extra life and current life total 200k) and get score about 500k, why you score must be lower. You get last stage with no lost, and go to and destroy last boss.

I got a reply from Gavin on that E-mail, so he also knows about the new rule.
