I don't understand why we have golf tracks split...because you might need different club? For example Outrun tracks are not, and they have a much bigger reason to be.

maybe because you can choose the golf course in the beginning of the game, and the only thing you can choose in the beginning of outun is the music track ??

what about a pazzing breeze/spash wave split? 8)

Choose course where you can get more points. If not then this is your problem.
In megaman you can select different ways too. But only 1 (one) way is the best for points.

hey as long we're on the subject... there are three different routes in Shock Troopers, with the option to switch routes halfway through the game, making for a total of 9 combinations. Splits to accomodate all 9 possibilities would be peachy keen.

seriously though, I don't think we really need these golf splits. It's kinda hard to have good competition at MARP when there's 598739872 versions of Golden Tee out there to play already. Practically nobody is watching/confirming these recordings either.

I think the splits are needed for the 3 different courses. However, it would be enough to do that for the first Golf game that comes along. In the case of 'gtsuprem', we could allow only 'gt2k' which is the Parent, and * the rest.

So in this case we could * 'gt2ks100' , 'gt2kt500' and 'gtsuprem'.

How's that?

split the parent not the clone sounds OK.

Have to agree there, amount of splits is ridiculous. That is not good for competition at these games.

As it looks by going through marp entrys that there really is no difference between different tracks scorewise(and gamewise too?)...A)Removing ALL splits would still enable players to play different tracks(because there are usually so many clones), it just would be upto their choosing.
-That's the non-liberal view.

-That being the liberal view

Note1: Many of the tracks have shared 1. places, that doesn't show in list above. (for example golden tee series has around 105 marp tracks, having 138 first places total)

(Note2: That list does not include future Golden Tee games, only half of them are now MAMED)
MAWS lists golden tee series as:

1. Golden Tee Golf (1990)
2. Golden Tee Golf II (1991)
3. Golden Tee 3D Golf (1995)
4. Golden Tee '97 (1997)
5. Golden Tee '98 (1998)
6. Golden Tee '99 (1999)
7. Golden Tee 2K (2000)
8. Golden Tee Classic (2001)
9. Golden Tee Fore! (2002)
10. Golden Tee Supreme Edition Tournament (2002)
11. Golden Tee Fore! 2002 (2002)
12. Golden Tee Fore! 2003 (2003)
13. Golden Tee Fore! 2004 (2004)
14. Golden Tee Fore! 2004 Extra (2004)
15. Golden Tee Live (2004)
16. Golden Tee Fore! 2005 (2005)

I think we all(might) agree that we should choose either option A or B...So we just could have a vote which one is better.

A would reduce the amount of above splits to around 1/3
B would reduce amount of above splits to around 1/2

All of you that don't want ANY change to current golf-splits, please say it now.

I think we will need a vote here...

& adding option C -- keep everything as is, no changes

For those that care: my vote is B (to satisfy those who still want splits)

Ok, we will have a vote. I think we should wait a while for different angles though. Incase we didn't think about everything already ;)

Vote will be separate thread, and will have options A or B and X. Something like if you don't want change vote for X yes or no, and if there will be change which one would you prefer A or B.

But that vote will be after couple days, if this thread dies fast.
Meanwhile, game on.

well, I don't see why not split golf courses when we split race courses and such; not really any difference. The game play is slow, but no less boring than say, frogger. There was quite a bit a place changes going on for a couple of months on the gtg's, and I figured the confirmers were waiting for things to settle down a bit before wasting time confirming a score only to have it topped the next day. I actually have come to like playing golden tee...as many times as I've played it, haven't had the same game twice...many variables keeps it fun. These games are just as valid as any mahjong/trivia games. Each course is unique, and lowest par course chosen doesn't always give best score at the end.
If we take the archive stance on these clones, then it should be so for ALL game clones, but then wouldn't see much activity on MARP. Leaving things as they are is probably the best solution, for now.

I just hope that if we decide to avoid all the splits in Golf games, that we'll split the Parent rom and archive the clones, instead of allowing uploads for all Roms without spliting them. That would become a mess in the end, that will come to no good one day.

I'm for A:
A)Removing ALL splits would still enable players to play different tracks(because there are usually so many clones), it just would be upto their choosing.

This rule use for race games too. No 'courses games' splits.

Just one thing to say :

Respect the hall of fame of each game !

If the game shows many hall of fame for each golf course then use it !

I thought marp permitted to each of us to see the best way to score in any game emulated by mame.

I finally think that all is always based on the leaderboard.

First you changed the scoring system to avoid alphabet upload and low scores then now that somebody scores in golf game and takes 1st places (not so easily and i know that because i archive all score posted at marp and i noticed that gerhard and welby made competition - almost 480 scores posted from 28-12-2004 till 19-09-2005) you think in changing the rules.

I repeat that if the game shows different hall of fame then split the game like the score is stored in the board.
