Special rules for endless games

Post by jm2003 »

Im trying to beat the kickers record (shaolins road clon), but is so boring and so long play.
Yesterday i made a 7000k record but i leave because i was bored and tired.
If bomb jack (endless game) has special rules (5 lifes records), why other endless games like this has not these special rules?

I agree with you, if dipswitches allow to limit number of lifes.

Note that for bombjack, default dipswitch have changed :
Before 0.127 :
Bird Speed = Easy
Enemies Number & Speed = Medium

After 0.127 :
Bird Speed = Hard
Enemies Number & Speed = Hard

Note that last settings were factory settings :

We can change settings of kicker:
Lives: 3,5 or 7
Extra life : 30000,70000 and every 70000
40000,80000 and every 80000
40000
50000
Dificulty : Easy, medium, hard and hardest.
I think the best option is 3 lives and extra life:50000, dificulty medium.

So what would happen to the current scores then? Would this also apply to the various shooters that have the same endless gameplay with constant extra lives? Wouldn't be too bad to add different rules to a clone if it had few scores on it but it seems a shame to bump those with good replays already up. I'm guessing this happened with Bomb Jack, special rules added before many replays were submitted.

Why not just note in the comments that it was a five man score?

I have seen the kicker and shaolins road inps(first position of MARP, and i think both of them are very bad replays. I can reach 1 million with my first life, but both of them lose 5 lives about 500k.

I supose first position is for best gamers not for longest INP.

Example: 7 million INP: 1101900 ptos-round 36 with first life :

Reached level 70, and 2257000 ptos with 5 lifes.

To answer your original question, there are no special rules on these particular games because nobody created or voted on the rules for these games. If you want that to happen, simply submit a vote to the RC, explaining your rationale. If it passes, special rules will then be implemented. When the scores are being made too 'easily', these votes usually pass by a wide margin.

These two games are hardly exceptions. Many games have seen dip revisions in recent releases; I have an informal list to look through at some future point.

As for the Bombjack discussion, if I recall, preserving these scores when settings change was on eof the main functions of the *-archive, no? Again, though, 'official' settings depend on the will of the MARP community, over TG or defaults. Besides, it seems to me quite a few of the .inps were made on Hard anyway, though I haven't checked in a while.

"RC" stands for Regulation Coordinator: who this year is Tommi Tiihonen = thetjt@sci.fi

An email to him may not be necessary because he should be reading this thread (right now) and be working diligently to determine which restrictions might be placed on this game to make it the most competitive. This game really should have special rules applied to discourage marathoning at identical difficulties.

Yes I'm the RC this year
I don't know the game, but I confirm that there is a marathon issue :
http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=23&gi=1640

Twin galaxies has two entries :
1- marathon (default/factory settings), hi=20M
2- extreme settings (live=2, extra=50k, diff=hardest), hi=1.9M

So I'm ok for a vote with these 2 possiblities, and maybe JM's proposal (live=3, extra=50k, diff=medium) as 3rd.
If marathon settings don't stay, all inputs will be moved to the archive, Qt is right, tha's what archive is for.

Opinions ?
(especially JM's one, what do you think of extreme settings ?)

I did not know TG settings, i think extreme settings is ok. and marathon can stay.
Then add extreme settings, i will be waiting for the new entry.
Thanks a lot.

Change settings for original and all clones?
Maybe set one clone to default settings?
