Team MARP - IGBY 2016 - Game Voting

Post by Zhorik »

Please use this thread to vote for games we'd like to include as Team MARP game selections for the IGBY 2016 tournament.

Based on the number of expected teams, each team will probably be able to select 3 games, so we should plan to select 3 games, in priority order, as well as 3 alternates in case there are problems with any of our initial selections or more games are allowed per team.

Here is a list of banned games because they've been in other recent Wolfman tournaments:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

We need to turn in our game selections by June 23rd, so we'll leave voting open until the 23rd. I'll also confirm that deadline again with Wolfman.

Please vote for 8 games in order of preference. I'll award 8 points for your first choice, 7 points for your second choice, 6 points for your third choice, and so on down to 1 point for your eighth choice. I'll then total the points for all games.

I'd prefer it if people posted their game votes on this thread, but if you want to keep it secret so as not to influence other votes you can PM me your vote instead. Any votes which are PMed to me I'll publicly list after voting concludes. Only votes from registered team members will be counted.

Also feel free to use this thread to argue for or against games you think we should pick. You can change your votes any time up until voting ends.

In my opinion I think we're better off picking slightly newer games instead of early 80's games. The Screenshotties team in particular looks very strong and has a lot of super classic players. So I think picking games from the late 80's or 90's would be to our advantage, in particular shooters, fighters, platformers or beat 'em ups.

Here were the nominated games. If you really want to, feel free to vote for games that aren't on the nominated list. However since most people are going to be looking at the nominated list when voting, if you vote for games not on the list they'll likely not get as many votes from other players. I've ordered games with multiple nominations at the top of the list, then sorted them alphabetically.

June 19 - I updated the list to include additional nominations from TRB. In a couple of cases there were separate nominations for different romsets of the same game (e.g. Japanese and World versions). I'm listing them just as a single game for voting and if the game is selected we can decide which rom version to use.

Green Beret (Nominated 3x)
Metamorphic Force [metamrphj] (nominated 3x) --- strong players: PG3, TRB, BBH, RAX, nii-san, Sawys, Zerstorung. (maybe: essekappa, INNUENDO, Fordy)

PG3 wrote:From what I remember there were 2 votes for Metamorphic Force before my voice, and TRB is 4 nominations instead of 3. And one does not have such a game like King of Dragons. :D
Metamorphic Force was nominated by you, TRB and Zerst, so there were 3 nominations for it. It's now also been voted for by Franco.

I updated the nominations list by combining the listing for "King of Dragons" into the nomination for The King of Dragons and noted it had 2 nominations.

I did vote in another thread, so I guess I should not vote here again? Or is this a new vote? Just to be sure hehe.

Please vote again here. The other thread was for nominating games to come up with a "short list". In this thread we're actually doing a weighted voting for just your top 8 choices in priority order.

+8 Mushihimesama Futari (Black Label version, Original mode) - I like this game a lot and it's one of the most modern shmups added in MAME (2007 arcade release) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voxeBd4viA0 - Would need a couple people to test to see if they can run it at full speed.
+7 Armed Police Batrider (Advanced Course) - This is basically Battle Garegga 2. Nobody's going to know how to play it but we've got a solid shmup team and I can explain the scoring tricks.
+6 J.J. Squawkers - We have a lot of people who can 1cc this.
+5 Metamorphic Force - I can consistently 1cc the Japan romset but I would almost recommend we play the US romset because it's way harder and the top score won't come down to score item drop luck.
+4 Ketsui - Nii-san and I can 1-all I think. Not sure how good BBH and Redstar are at this one, but we could probably get 4 of the top 5 scores at least.
+3 Whichever of SF2 or 3rd strike y'all want to play more. I won't play but this is a pick for the team.
+2 Pig Newton - You're really bacon now.
+1 Dimahoo - Dimahoo is a fun game.

I think I'll base my votes on the strengths of the team rather than any personal preference:
1) Street Fighter III 3rd Strike - we have too many great beat'm up players not to have one
2) Captain Commando - lots of our team are very good at this as well
3) Armed Police Batrider - I think we would totally dominate on the shmup.

if I was allowed a fourth choice it would have to be one of the Cave shmups don't care which as they are all fun.
