I really need to d/l the proper MAME version and watch this input... I want to see how the heck he manages this. I know I could push a little further with practice, but it's already taxing my reactions with the score I have, and I don't think my reactions are slow at all.

No need for those praises. This game wasn't emulated correctly back in mame31. It plays a lot slower with those older versions.
I'm not sure when it was fixed (anyone know?). But those inps recorded with older versions (mine included) need to be deleted.

Yeah, all 3 of the top scores for that are with really old mame versions...and about the same score.

OK, I have tested it now. The bug was fixed in mame34b4.
EDITORS: Please delete all spacezap inps recorded with versions older than m34b4.

Also add a special rule that at least that version should be used.
...although nowadays I think any submissions using a version older than 0.36 shouldn't be accepted anyway...and for 0.36 and 0.37 only in special cases like the Sega games.
ie. if a game works properly with versions 0.70 and later of MAME, or 0.60 and later, then no way someone should be going all the way back to 0.37 or older.
When you get to those older versions many games don't play quite the same way or the default dip switch settings aren't the same as they are now etc.
I wonder how many other scores here that are from 1998 using really old versions of MAME haven't been beaten simply because the game plays correctly in later versions making it impossible to beat those old scores.

I wonder who else actually played this game in the arcades, i doubt any of the 300k scorers did or they would have mentioned something. The controls for the space zap i played were really cool, no joystick all buttons, and it was sort of a mini cabinent somewhere between a standup and a table. All scores will reflect 3 ships since that is the current default.
However i have a playabck problem with this one, only gets 30k.

No worries from me.........

I had no idea what this game played like as I never saw it in the arcades.
Will try it on a later release to see what the difference is - assuming this game will run at full speed on a crusty old K6II-300....
Patwos.
PS: Some of us have to use Mame035 or 036 in order to get full speed on games since we have older hardware - part of the reason I'm not participating much at Marp currently until I can afford, or more appropriately justify, an upgrade that will allow these later versions of Mame to run at a decent speed.

Well Brian , at least you have the Rugby WC to occupy your time....
I'm working shifts , so I miss the live games . And watching the highlights isn't the same....especially when you already know the result
Cheers ,
