POLL : use of secure version

Ok I've read posts there :
viewtopic.php?t=13903

I think a poll is legit there to know general opinion.
First step concerns use of secure version, if answer is YES we will definite later :
1-what secure versions can be used (wolf, alpha, 35tg ?)
2-in what circumstances secure version must be used (taking 1st place, entering top3, etc)

This poll is important, let it run it 15 days

"circumstances" seems a bit vague.

if you want for first or top 3, then say that in the poll question.

we already have "circumstances" where we require wolfmame...tournaments etc.

destructor..yes, but then the "etc." is quite vague don't you think?

what if I don't agree with part of whatever might be within "etc."?

BTW, for the past 2 years any scores I have submitted here were played on my PC notebook using wolfmame.

..so personally I do think any and all new scores submitted should be using wolfmame(not even alphamame or tgmame but only wolfmame) by OSes that support it.

I haven't used my mac for almost 2 years now...yet think if there is some gamer able to set some elite scores and happens to own a mac, their scores should be accepted.

tar just submitted(resubmitted??) a score using tg35mame. unless this was a resubmission I would vote to zero it because there is no reason to use such an old version of mame nowadays.

Hello all at MARP.
Ln2 , the ripoff recording i submitted was recorded with a 12 year old DTK computor. 150 megahertz processor speed. Windows `98 second edition.
35tg3 -nosound was the optimal performance choice for the system.

ouch...nothing newer than that?

Go to BYOAC forum and read what PCs use people for MAME and how much money they spend for it. You don't must have 3GHz processor ;)

Of course i have this one hooked to the net.
It is an AMD Athlon 1.6 gig process speed.

destructor, you supported my point above actually.

...some gamers use old systems...where maybe even the earliest alphamame or wolfmame is too slow for most games on their old PC....so they use an older regular mame that runs much faster so they can play..not so they can cheat...but so they can play.

I used macmame cuz a mac was all I had. Since I got this PC notebook a couple years ago, I have only played using wolfmame.

What was your point again? A minute ago you were pro wolfmame, voting to zero tar's score because it uses an old version. Now you're supporting the use of all versions to allow for users with older machines?

Where is your problem with block not wolf/alpha top scores, LN2? Please say it in up 3 words.

My problem is no GUI with the newer versions. I tried to use the front end emuloader, but that also has lots of issues.

I mainly play pcbs these days, but if I submit any scores to marp I will continue to use mameplus. If the poll decides to zero my scores, then so be it. :D

Try different front ends. I'm sure you will find right frond end for you.

There's still always that little frontend I included with 0.113. I do plan to one day work on a full-featured frontend one day, but I have other projects I'd rather work on right now.

ok, I think I see the misunderstanding. There are 2 posers here...

one was whether all first and/or second place scores made with nonsecure versions of mame should be zeroed out.

I think those made and submitted before alphamame or wolfmame existed should not get zeroed. many didn't use tg35mame back then...was great for many games but as we all know 0.35 had issues for many games. It is a shame we never saw a tg37mame even as IMHO 37 was the first quite good version.

I also think you can't apply anything like that to only first and/or second place. It would have to be applied to all scores.

Ok, now tar's reference above. This was with tg35mame. I think if a secure version of MAME is used, it should be one of the new wolfmames...with possible exception of a game that isn't emulated correctly in modern wolfmame yet is in tg35mame.

tar just submitted this past week. tar has submitted many scores using modern wolfmame...so why the tgmame for that one score? tar has shown he has the hardware to use wolfmame for other submissions.

If tar's submission this past week was a resubmission of a game played 5+ years ago from where the original was lost at MARP, then ok...score still accepted...otherwise I would vote to zero it....for any player.

I hope that clears that up.
