To playback use advmame for dos/windows (both worked for me).
It playbacks with the default configuration, so just download and set the roms directory!
AdvanceMAME's "internal" resampling mode is the only way to record & playback Raiden AFAIK.
where's the link to advance mame? and will the link be there after armagedon like the marp mame links?
you should take playbackability seriously... standard versions that will be the most available, do you want to go to google looking for the mame version each time you playback a recording?
if there's no freaking link to the mame version YES, no duh! but since you provided one, i'll try it. but think about it, do you really want your recordings to be seen if you have to use a rare mame version to play it back? maybe not.
Internal resampling? So this is some sort of IRQ callback issue from the sound hardware (a la Cave hardware)? And if so, how about switching sound off instead of forcing everyone to download yet another bloated version of MAME? (I've requested that -nosound be used in the past, so that I can be more sure where the issue lies - and was ignored)
Ok, plays back fine with AdvanceMAME 0.90. Just please don't make me use it for watching inps again - it's a right pain in the ass to set up preferences.
What preferences did you have to setup?
Because changing the roms directory and using the same command line as standard MAME doesn't sound like a pain in the ass.
What may bother you is that you have to download yet another version of MAME, but (and it's weird I have to say this) you don't have to watch my inps if you don't want to.
I won't discuss if advmame is bloated or not.
I will just say that it's a blessing for us with mame-cabinets.
Later today I will record an inp with nosound and post it here.
I will help with anything that may be useful to improve Raiden's emulation.
Last I want to say that it would be a pity if MARP didn't accept advmame's inps, because in that case we wouldn't be accepting recordings made with the only version of MAME which can reproduce the "arcade experience".
If it's not because of advmame and it's something personal against me just say so.
heh, vanity, it's not about you or advance mame, we're creating an archive of inps here, and it makes sense to have them playback in the least number of emulators as possible, that's where my anger comes from anyway.
play and have fun with any version that gets you off, but when you make recordings try to conform and use wolf (or the very least official) mame's when you post to a public site...
Chad, don't think it's because of this argument (which will hopefully finish soon and well) but I will go on using AdvanceMAME.
I have the possibility to play with original arcade controls and monitor, and I am not giving up to that.
For most games joystick feels more comfortable than keyboard. There are a few games which benefit from keyboard, though (at least for me). One of those is Pac-Land. I even admit I wouldn't be able to score as much as my current scores without a keyboard.
For those games I will use my desktop pc with WolfMAME or whatever current MARP's official MAME version is.
I will try to setup wolf in my cabinet (and do the Raiden recording) as I simply can't play shoot'em ups with the keyboard, but it will not be my cab's default MAME version for reasons I can explain if needed.
So please, next time you see a recording uploaded by me which was made with advmame, don't think: "oh another one from this stubborn guy".
Firstly, no one is going to stop you from using AdvanceMAME.
Secondly, AdvanceMAME does not use the same commandline options as MAME. -createconfig and -window do not exist. It's not hard to set up (for me at least), but is a pain in the ass for the sake of one recording.
As far as I am aware, there aren't any other incompatibilities between MAME and AdvanceMAME. At least, I hope there isn't.
Of course, you can set up low-res video modes on nVidia cards pretty easily... or if you can't be bothered, just use hardware stretch.
Hardware stretch, yes. And 640x480 interlaced-scan, that's what I had to do.
Tried 320x240 single-scan and shrinking the image but that was worse.
Obviously the image quality was very low but not as bad as I expected. I enabled d3d filter to help with the stretch of the image. Any other setting you want to know just ask.
And Nightwish helped to bear the -nosound
I hope you can manage to find Raiden's problem Barry!
