Bogey Manor score clear and min. version setting

Post by Q. T. Quazar »

Bogey Manor changed difficulty settings somewhere between .89 and .92, from Easy to Normal (which it should have been for default in the first place). the top score on this game is a leechfest, mainly because on Easy difficulty (and only on Easy) you can stun ghosts without even touching them. sounds strange, but it's a REALLY easy setting, i suppose.

second place is an unsecure version (win88) and 3rd place is mine, from a long long time ago. the only other two scores are well out of contention.

None of the current scores on this game are post-Wolf.88. I'm hoping we can vote to just clear all of the scores and start over at the proper difficulty, without the excessive leeching. A side benefit is that the timing has also changed slightly on this game in .134u1, due to recalibration of CPU1, so the game is also more accurately emulated now. Consequently, we'd post up a 'must record with .135 or later rule'.

Hope the community will support this measure.

Ok you're right : 88 is on "easy" and 92 is on "normal" by default ; I got a crash trying to launch the game with 89,90,91.
Classic problems of default dipswitches changed.
Two options :
1-zero (or archive?) the 3 inputs and force use of 92 or later (or even 135 due to calibration if you prefer)
2-keep the 3 inputs and allow use of "easy"

I prefer option #1 (archiving the 3 inputs, maybe renaming actual bogeyman to *bogeyman-eas ?)
But I don't know the game very well to see clearly what would be the best.
I need some practice :?

normally i would say archive-easy, but the top replay in this case is pretty junky, since you can stun from anywhere (on normal you have to 'touch' to stun). after stunning, it''s just a matter of swording the enemy as much as possible. there's very little attempt to make progress in the game. so i would just delete, in this case; i will be deleting mine either way.

hmm... i must have tested wrong. you can still stun enemies without 'touching'--but the monsters are at least faster now and not so easy to manipulate. things start to get pretty intense by the 4th house :)
