Largest INP file?

Post by sikraiken »

Seeing the Equites recording today, I was wondering, what IS the largest INP file on MARP? This does not include Zip file size, of course, since some programs compress more/less than others. The largest ones I have seen so far are, in order of size:

Retro-B: Equites 60,461,272 bytes
zlk: Excitebike 59,497,072 bytes
Tech-D: Xevious 56,165,720 bytes
Mancho: Nibbler 35,403,872 bytes

Just an interesting little thing, like the largest scores. :D

Well, the Xevious recording is said to be 6hr 33min by Tech-D, I guess there might be a way to figure out how "long" an inp is in terms of length by looking at its exact size.

What about those marathon Ghouls 'n Ghosts recordings that MKL and TKY@Team2Ch had submitted before a new scoring system had been worked out for MARP? I don't have the .inps, so anyone with them might want to check the sizes on those...

Q.T.Quasar's recording of Trisports Straight Pool is larger, :)

111,990,128 bytes

BTW, are these recordings large because you played 12 or so hours, or are the INP's somehow recorded differently?

And Chad, what the heck is "analogue"?

oh analog control recordings, when you use a mouse/trackball/non-digital-joystick this feeds gobs of data into the inp frame packet. usually with digital inputs the inp frame size is constant (ben jos would know the exact size) i think each frame in the current mame is 64 or 32 bytes. When analog controls come into play the frames get randomly larger depending on what the input is, not sure why since it's still really a digital number coming from the controller. Programs that parse inps can tell how many frames are in an inp (it's a challenge to parse analog inps since they are variable in length) and if you know how many frames are in the inp AND you know what the frames per second the game is (normally 60, sometimes 30 or 58) then you can tell how long the recording was (assuming they didn't use slowdowns or F10 to take off the throttle). So a large recording doesn't necesarily mean a long recording if it was recorded analogy.

nice smiles parser parsed the 58) into a 5glassesSmiles

Ok Skito, not that we can all understand that...

I just uploaded a new trisport-9bl inp, another 70Mb to congest the space... And no, it didn't take 12 hours, only about 5 minutes...
